I am enjoying learning these four scores for the London Repertoire Orchestra new works session on Wednesday. They are very different and all will be fun to play. Dominic Veall’s Preludio and Montuno Meltdown has Latin rhythms and lots of fun solos for most instruments. Steve Chowne’s Ten Minute Symphony is just that – four movements condensed into a ten minute piece with a newclassical sparkle. My own Tide, from my Sea Symphony, was only finished four weeks ago. It’s a majestic movement, with the big theme building and building towards the finale. And finally there is Owen Ho’s Of Openings, Non-endings which is very atmospheric with beautiful soft textures and instruments coming to the foreground one by one with a flourish.
