Sarah Ironside

“When I listen to 'In conversation', I close my eyes and can imagine the chatter between the players - the music makes me smile and feel happy.
Listening to 'Mathilde' always brings me to tears - I was very lucky to be at the first performance at Lumen in London.
Chatelaine is very special to me - I have enjoyed listening to the playback and I can't wait to attend a live performance.”

Dr Tash Coplestone-Crow

“Listening to 'Mathide', 'In Conversation', and 'Chatelaine' (on the face of it three very different pieces), the composer's unique and captivating identity is unmistakeable. Motivic and imitative interplay (often based around oscillating melodic and/or well-controlled harmonic seconds), combined with quirky rhythmic and metrical shifts, propel the music forwards in a logical, sometimes surprising, yet ultimately satisfying ebb and flow of unfolding. Control of dissonance in 'In Conversation', together with nods towards 'conventional' tonality, and a well-judged timing of unison, cleverly support the program. Textural exploration in all three pieces is intriguing, exploiting the medium of string writing in delicate and subtle ways.”
