A Premiere At Age 100

Today is György Kurtág’s 100^th birthday. And he has a premiere today of his new opera, on his 100^th birthday. There’s something for me to aim for. 

I marked the occasion by listening to something he wrote when he was my age. It’s his Double Concerto for cello, piano and two ensemblers. I am listening now.

It’s a beautiful piece. Different from what I am writing at the same age – Sea Symphony, My Holy Place, Postcard From Milltown Malbay, Sunrise At Skiddaw, Travel Guides, O Sacrum Convivium, Tube, Sunset At Sea. Will I still be writing at 100? I do have an ambition to be skiing still when I am 80!
