I am walking for Dawn Of Civilisation, the first movement of the Sea Symphony. Standing outside my grandfather’s birthplace looking at the Atlantic Ocean, my mind travelled back a few more centuries to early Medieval times. Two ancient melodies are oscillating in my head – Sciathlúireach Mhuire (Irish) and Doxazomen Sou Christe (Byzantine). I am in the middle of writing this movement, so I don’t yet know where it’s going – exciting!
