The world premiere of Sunset at Sea with the Sheffield Chamber Orchestra

On 29 November 2025 Sheffield Chamber Orchestra will premiere ’Sunset at Sea’.  In a fireside chat with Laurence Perkins, the conversation explored the rich tapestry behind Sunset at Sea, from Janáček to Shostakovich, Debussy to Bach, and even a touch of Gregorian chant.

Sunset at Sea is a new work composed by Dominic especially for the SCO.  In conversation with Laurence Perkins, Dominic describes the joy of writing for SCO ’The balance and clarity between strings, wind and brass..passing the material between different instruments..a wonderful sound palette to work with.’ With this clarity, Sunset at Sea conjures glints of light on water, the vast sweep of sunset skies and the layered motion of ocean tides.
