Sunday, 27th of September 2026

Next Sunday (4th October), it’s the 800th anniversary of Brussels Cathedral. And it’s being marked by a new piece I wrote specially for the occasion, My Holy Place.

I wrote the sketches for My Holy Place in my notebook in the Cathedral on New Year’s Eve last, 31st December 2025. I remember walking up from the Grand Place, entering the Cathedral and experiencing that timeless tranquillity. As I was sitting in the nave, looking up at the vaulted ceiling, I heard the beautiful chords that characterise the piece. Also in my head was Bruckner’s Locus Iste, another piece capturing the serene beauty in a church.

Next Sunday, those sounds will come to life, filling the Cathedral with aural spirituality. My Holy Place is the Offertory motet at the celebratory Mass. Locus Iste is the Communion motet.

Happy 800th birthday to the Cathédrale des Saints Michel et Gudule!
