Meeting Laurence Perkins to discuss the première of Sunrise At Skiddaw for 23 wind instruments. We also reflected on his première performance of Sunset At Sea.
Here’s Laurence on Sunset At Sea,
“It was a real pleasure to be able to conduct the very first performance of Sunset at Sea by Dominic McGonigal.
It's an absolutely beautiful piece.
It has wonderful harmonic interest and a lovely flowing texture throughout which recreates a movement of water, sometimes gentle, sometimes a little more energetic, and a beautiful sense of progression as we go through the piece, always with that very special connection which is inextricably associated with the sea.
And it was something that went down very, very well with the players when I conducted that performance.
They really loved being in the middle of that beautiful sound world.
So I think this will be a wonderful thing to have on a commercial recording.
I can't wait to hear the other movements as well.”
