A Spring programme for Easter featuring two big influences. Poulenc’s Stabat Mater is harmony-led. I love the way he builds up rich chords with added notes. Lily Boulanger knew how to use the orchestra. D’Un Matin Du Printemps was written when she was just 19 years old and shows her mastery of the orchestra, with some incredible textures and colours. I wish I had been able to write like that at her age! I wish I could write like that now – I try!
