Sitting in a sauna looking out at Lake Corrib, with the first movement of the Sea Symphony going round my head. Two days ago I was at the top of Knocknaveen on Clare Island, looking out at the Atlantic ocean, writing sketches in my notebook.
It starts with two ancient melodies, one from Ireland, the other from Byzantium.
They both have a timeless quality which still resonates with us today. They saw the same sea that we see, the same but different, it’s always changing. These two melodies are evolving slow slowly in my head and I don’t know yet where they are going.
