Finished Splash!

It’s a great moment, finishing a piece. But scary too. Is it OK? I don’t know. I need to pluck up the courage to listen to the MP3 playback. Ready? I’m listening now and really enjoying it! It’s full of expectation and surprises. Just like the splash from the sea. Regular irregularity. Or, irregular regularity. I’ll ask a couple of friends to do quality control.
Then, I’ll get to work tidying up the orchestration and the typos. Because of the intricacy of the rhythm and the significance of the orchestral timbres, I wrote is straight out for full orchestra (rather than a condensed short score). So there shouldn’t be too much to do on orchestration, but there will be lots of markings to add – dynamics, phrasing, articulation, rehearsal marks. I don’t always have time for those when I am ‘in the flow’.

Looking back through my notebook, I can see the ideas developing from small rhythmic cells and structural outlines, through melodic ideas and harmonic sequences, to several possibilities for the climax of the movement and the final seven chords.
