In Paris for a board meeting of IMARA, the global organisation for music performers. Exciting to have been asked to set up this new organisation and continue to work to improve the rights of musicians. Having led the campaigns in Europe to get an extra 20 years of copyright and then streaming rights, I am now in a position to make improvements worldwide, especially in AI.

I was able to take some time in Paris to relive many beautiful memories and be inspired again by this great city. The three great tympanum of Notre Dame reminded me of the West Door of Lincoln Cathedral, the inspiration for the first movement of my Cathedral Symphony. On the Rive Gauche, the artistic heart of Paris (6th arondissement), I stopped in the Balto café for some artistic refreshment. Then on the train back from Paris to Brussels, I prepared the parts for Tide (the final movement of my Sea Symphony) which gets its first outing at the new works session with London Repertoire Orchestra next Wednesday. It will be exciting to play through this new work, only just completed – the ink is still wet! It’s a massive movement, 15 minutes long, structured on the tide – starting with the stillness of low tide, then surging forward with the running of the mid tide, finally reaching the peak of high tide with all its power and energy creating a majestic finale for the symphony.
